We didn’t start out trying to build a big company. We started out fixing roofs one leak one storm-damaged membrane and one worried homeowner at a time. Somewhere along the way word got around the neighborhood then the next neighborhood and now we’re one of the roofing crews Brooklyn homeowners actually call back for with a good job.
That’s still how we think of ourselves: not a franchise not a call center that dispatches strangers to your door but a crew of roofers who live in the same borough we work in drive the same streets and deal with the same weather your roof has to survive.
Why We Started This Company
There’s a particular kind of quiet you only notice on a rooftop above the noise of the street above the traffic on the avenue just you the membrane under your boots and whatever the last guy did or didn’t do right. Dainish has spent years in that quiet on brownstone rear extensions in Bed-Stuy wind-beaten rowhouse roofs in Bensonhurst and commercial storefronts patched one too many times in Bushwick. You learn a roof’s whole history up there every shortcut somebody took every seam sealed with the cheapest thing on the truck and every homeowner who got a number over the phone and a very different one once the crew showed up.
That’s the thing that never sat right. Not the work itself the work is honest physical and satisfying when it’s done properly. What never sat right was watching people get shortchanged on something as basic as a straight answer about their own roof.
Boro Flat Roofing came out of that. Nothing complicated: climb up look at what’s actually there tell the homeowner the truth in plain words and charge a number that matches the work not one built to be haggled down later. That’s the whole philosophy and it hasn’t changed since day one. Every roof we touch in Brooklyn still gets treated like it’s the only one that matters because to the person standing under it is.
